What is Constant velocity universal joint (CV Joint)?

Constant speed universal joint is a mechanism that connects two axes that do not coincide and makes the two axes transmit motion at the same angular speed. It is an important part of the car transmission system.

The function of the drive shaft is to transmit engine power from the transmission (differential) to the car’s driving wheels, while accommodating for changes in outer end angles and compensating for suspension movement at the inner end. This allows for high-speed driving without compromising performance.

There are various types of constant speed universal joints for cars, with the CV Joint type and three pin type being the most commonly used, as well as the inclined raceway type which consists of an inner CV Joint, outer-CV Joint, and half shaft.

Due to the heavy driving torque and high transmission precision required for heavy loads, as well as the crucial safety components involved, the constant speed universal joint utilizes precision forging in its main parts.

Constant velocity universal joint classification- Center fixed CV Joint

  1. Constant speed universal joint assembly – CV axle

A mechanical component that transmits motion and torque between a differential or end reduction gear and a wheel, comprising one or two sets of constant velocity universal joints, intermediate shafts, and other associated parts.

2. constant velocity joint -CV Joint

A universal joint that transmits motion at an instantaneous angular velocity ratio equal to 1 between the output and input axes.

3. center Fixed type constant speed universal joint – Fixed joint

The center-fixed type constant speed universal joint is a fixed joint that allows for changes in working angle only within the range of constant speed.

4, expansion type constant speed universal Joint – Plunging Joint

Revised sentence: A constant velocity universal joint capable of adjusting the operating angle and accommodating stretching and slipping movements.

Fixed joint – ball Fixed Joint

In 1958, the British Birfield Group successfully developed, Japan and South Korea and other countries to Rzeppa type fixed joint name. The raceway is oval in cross-section, and the steel ball and raceway form fixed constant velocity universal joints at four points.

Fixed joint – Radseitiges Festkugelgelenk

German short for single arc raceway fastener. The circular raceway features fixed, constant-speed universal joints at two points for the steel ball and raceway.

Fixed joint – Glaenzer-exterieur-tripod

The three-pin frame is secured within the jacket, and the ball ring, mounted on said frame along with the fork shaft, constitutes a fixed constant-velocity universal joint located at the center of the working angle.

Fixed joint – Angular Contact joint

For a fixed end, the fairway section shape is either an ellipse or a Gaussian curve (double arc). The AC type universal joint is widely utilized in cars and light passenger vehicles, with a maximum swing angle of 47°. This fully satisfies the motion requirements of vehicle steering and suspension systems, making it the most used constant speed universal joint for wheel ends.
